Church Media Team

What does it mean to serve on my church's Media Team? What have I learn from this opportunity?

Starting at the age of 16, the leaders of the media team at my church extend an invitation for me to join the media team. Since my brothers were already part of this department, I felt an instant supportive community when I joined. I knew I could learn and grow in an environment where I was familiar with the other members and an excellent way to use my skills to serve the Lord. In a short amount of time, I was trained to use a camera, start the live streams on Youtube and Facebook and operate the switcher. These technical skills were amazing but I also learned how to work in a fast-pace environment, how to communicate effectively when I am giving direction on the switcher and attention to detail. Additially, I have learned the importance of the internet as we are able to give our brothers and sisters to access to our service even if they could not attend this day or if they live in other countries. Lastly, my church's base language is Spanish and Kanjobal which meant that the majority of the time I spoke in Spanish in our workspaces and in our content.

Before officially being in the media team at my church, we need to be able to do every position that there is in the live stream process. Roles include:

  • Setting up the live stream (start and stop the live stream on Youtube and Facebook)

  • Managing the switcher

  • Director of visuals

  • Camera operator

This process was pretty long but extremely rewarding. As the media team, we also like to brainstorm on ideas we can do to engage our digital community to our church. Thus, we also create content on Instagram.
